Ghetto 2010
The State of Israel. Tel Aviv. City center. The year is 2010. I am standing, looking around me. After a few minutes I collect myself.
Swastikas, worn suitcases, hanging clothes, and a Star of David branded deeply into a wardrobe lying in a corner of the room. As a grandson of an Auschwitz survivor, I stand there looking and cannot take it in. Sixty-five years earlier, in the spring of 1945, my grandmother was liberated from the hell she had been through. And today, in the spring of 2010, the air is filled with exactly the same feeling. I stand there and cannot take it in. I take a deep, deep breath, and go back behind my lens.
Ghetto 2010 was photographed at the termination of Holocaust Remembrance Day at the Cameri Theatre of Tel Aviv, April 2010, Israel.
